An optician, an optometrist and an ophthalmologist do quite different jobs. An optician makes glasses to suit your prescription. An optometrist measures your eye and its degree of nearsightedness or farsightedness, and writes prescriptions. An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who specializes in the diagnosis, and medical and surgical treatment of eye disease.
